This latest 300B-based tube amplifier design is engineered to fully realize the exceptional sonic potential of the 300B through the latest-generation output transformer technology, exclusively developed and manufactured in-house by ThivanLabs.

Among all vacuum tubes used in audio, the 300B holds a special place in the hearts of audiophiles for its uniquely captivating sound – rich, delicate, and effortlessly seductive. Since 2009, more than 17 years have been devoted to exploring and refining the full capabilities of the 300B, continuously optimizing both its performance and musical expression. Throughout this journey, numerous configurations have been developed and perfected – from Push-Pull and Single-Ended amplifier topologies to innovative applications of the 300B in preamplifier stages, including dedicated 300B preamplifiers designed to convey music with the utmost nuance and refinement.

The Essence of Single-Ended Purity

The Flamingo 300-X inherits a wealth of these technological achievements, culminating in a design that embodies the latest standards of sonic excellence.

At its core lies a pure Single-Ended topology, carefully realized to preserve the natural character of the 300B. The amplifier features four 300B tubes in the output stage, complemented by two 12AU7 and two 6V6 tubes in the preamplifier stage. Delivering 16W RMS, this Single-Ended architecture brings out the full musicality of the 300B, offering an emotionally engaging and richly expressive listening experience.

The amplifier delivers a wide frequency response of 10Hz–30kHz with low distortion, achieved without the use of feedback in order to preserve natural dynamics and tonal authenticity. While some amplifiers on the market rely on feedback to compensate for design limitations, such approaches often improve measurements rather than true sonic performance and can constrain the natural openness and fluidity of the sound.

Advanced Output Transformer Technology

A defining element of the Flamingo 300-X is its latest-generation output transformers, exclusively developed and manufactured in-house by ThivanLabs. Refined through years of research and testing, these transformers play a critical role in preserving signal integrity – allowing music to emerge with clarity, weight, and natural balance across the full frequency range.

The output transformer is arguably the most critical component in a Single-Ended tube amplifier, responsible for transferring energy from the tubes to the loudspeakers. Decades of experience, combined with the production of tens of thousands of transformers across a wide range of designs, have contributed to deep expertise in this crucial field.

This expertise enables the Flamingo 300-X to achieve a remarkable level of sonic refinement, ensuring that dynamics remain open, bass retains its authority, and the overall presentation stays coherent and lifelike.

The custom-designed output transformers are deliberately substantial in mass – a key factor in achieving superior sound quality. Undersized transformers, by contrast, limit low-frequency performance, resulting in weaker and less controlled bass. They also require thinner winding wire, increasing impedance and leading to signal loss, ultimately compromising dynamics and detail, particularly during demanding musical passages.
