OVERVIEW

Open Baffle speaker is one of ThivanLabs’ loudspeaker designs that have been very early researched and developed because of the rare natural sound and a capacity of unlimitedly extending the soundstage. Not many other speaker designs can reproduce the sound with these outstanding typical characteristics. The strength of the open baffle design is non resonant sound that often occurs with the vent box speaker enclosure. Because of the open structure of the speaker cabinet or it can be understood to be no speaker enclosure, the buzzing sound, especially in the low frequency, is completely reduced. In a vent box speaker enclosure design, if the resonance is not optimally solved, the low frequency often is influenced first. There are two negative results that are often seen in the designs of the vent box speaker enclosure such as the bass is compressed to control the bass better but this makes the sound lose its naturalness. The other situation is a badly controlled and noisy bass. In the new generation of ThivanLabs open baffle speaker, thanks to an innovation of crossover and speaker cabinet structure solution, ThivanLabs’ designers utilizes the strengths of this design to completely improve all negative resonance and naturally reproduces the sound while all ranges are extremely excellent controlled.

The new generation ThivanLabs open baffle speakers have a very well controlled, very deep, full and clear bass with a wonderful extension that makes the stage of the sound extremely open and airy. GRAND OPEN is the name of our first commercial Open Baffle loudspeaker officially introduced to the market in 2016. This model is the synthesis and distillation of successful engineering and research results as well as excellent innovation in cabinet design that Thivanlabs has accumulated over 20 years of R & D of high end loudspeaker. These are the experiences we have gained through researching and testing with specialized measurement equipment, learning and understanding about the sound and music through Live recording, analogue sound reproduction, and a variety of rich music experiences such as classical concerts performed by renowned orchestras and artists in auditoriums that are acoustically acclaimed in the world.

2023 is an important milestone marking the birth of a new generation of Open Baffle speakers and Grand Open is developed to the latest versions including: Grand Open Black Diamond, Grand Open Special Edition and Grand Open Mark II. The Grand Open 2023 models offer a great premium choice for the most demanding ears. The new generation of Grand Open speakers is truly the pinnacle of the ThivanLabs Open Baffle range of loudspeakers. The sound is super natural and extremely standard. Indeed, the Grand Open 2023 is the magnificent evolution of sound control and reproducing ability. The latest upgrading and enhancements have resulted in incredibly impressive, realistic and natural sound, accurate sound reproduction across a wide variety of music genres. ThivanLabs’ latest Open Baffle speaker models not only offer great musical experiences, but also offer a much more flexible setup for this type of speaker. The Grand Open is extremely easy to pair with all types of amps and can play well with low power amps such as single-ended amplifiers (SET amps).

GRAND OPEN is a three-way speaker consisting of a tweeter, a 10inch midrange and a large 18inch woofer. In the Grand Open 2023 speaker design, the coordination of the drivers as well as the engineering solution of the Grand Open are tested and refined to create a harmonious combination of the high, mid and low ranges for the purpose of creating an overall blend of sound, full of bands, detailed with the highest musicality. The high and super high ranges are supported by a treble driver with a square horn design to create the best sound spread, helping to show the thorny, high-pitched sound quality in emotional lyrical songs, string instruments, etc. Horn tweeter has become a highlight feature of Thivanlabs loudspeaker designs offering sparkling, detailed and refined highs. The strength of paper diaphragm drivers continues to be exploited with midrange speakers and woofers. While the midrange sound is very emotional and conveys the naturalness of the sound intact. The 18-inch woofer produces deep, diffuse and smooth bass, completely free of compression.

With the Grand Open series, the sensitivity of the speaker is up to 94 dB, so almost all common amplifiers can be paired well with these models. In addition to playing with an amp, users can experience Bi-amping with a various range of tube amp and hybrid tube amp models of ThivanLabs and MAVIS.

GRAND OPEN is suitable for medium and large listening rooms from 30 – 60 square meter. These speaker models perform extremely well in many genres of music, not only able to convey the sweet depth and the warmth of emotional vocals, but also very well expresses the majestic sound of the large musical instruments such as drums or brass instruments that often found in difficult symphonies, powerful bass songs, complex sound sequences in choral classical music. Combining with a tube amplifier will reproduce a very natural and lively sound overall with the smooth, flexible, sweet, warm sound. GRAND OPEN – BLACK DIAMOND

Grand Open Black Diamond is the most special model in the new generation Open Baffle speaker series. The cabinet structure is completed with specially selected materials and an upgrade in the cabinet structure design along with the large and heavy speaker stands to create extremely good vibration resistance. As a result, the high range of the Black Diamond version is very detailed, the midrange is extremely smooth and clear, the bass is deep and creates an impressive expansion spread. The crossover is specially designed to let the drivers take advantage of the full advantage of this cabinet structure, helping to optimize the sound that the Grand Open Black Diamond can achieve.
